Situated right in the heart of Russell on Chapel Street, Kororāreka | Russell RSA is a community-driven RSA (Returned and Services’ Association) that offers a welcoming, friendly atmosphere to members, their guests, and visitors. They embrace both locals and travellers, making it a comfortable spot to drop in for a drink, a meal or just some company. The RSA is an important hub for the Russell community. From winter fireside evenings to summer barbecues, it’s a place where people gather and connect.

Facilities & Atmosphere

The RSA offers a cosy bar environment, with free Wi-Fi, a pool table, dart boards, and flat-screen TVs. In colder months, a fire is often ablaze, adding to the warmth of the space. The premises also accommodate self-contained campervans and motorhomes — overnight parking is available (up to two nights) for a nightly fee of $20, though pre-booking is encouraged.

Dining & Food Options

The RSA includes a restaurant called Menina’s Kitchen, which opened recently and offers meals on Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings. A Sunday roast lunch is a staple on Sundays. Patrons may also bring in takeaways to enjoy with their drinks. On request, food is available outside those core hours. A communal BBQ is also available for guests to use, in return for a donation to the RSA’s welfare fund that supports veterans and their families.

Venue Hire & Events

Kororāreka | Russell RSA offers its dining room and courtyard as venue hire options. Whether you’re planning a birthday, anniversary, work gathering or even a wedding, the RSA can cater to your event. Full catering is available. The RSA also runs regular entertainment: Friday night meat raffles at 5.30 pm, a members’ hat draw on Saturday nights, and other live entertainment possibilities.

Visiting & Membership

The RSA is open during the weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with specified bar hours; the office is open Monday and Tuesday from 10 am to 2 pm. Outside of those times, enquiries may be made via email or social media. Membership is welcomed, and guests and visitors are always invited to experience the RSA’s community spirit.
